He was drowning in paperwork. The relentless demands of his job seemed to sap him of all energy. The computer screen, usually a source of information and connection, now felt like a cage. He felt an overwhelming desire to be alone, to be still, to escape the ceaseless pressures of the world. He shut his eyes, the weight of the day pressing down on him. All he wanted was to feel nothing, to simply cease to exist. He leaned back in his chair, staring at the ceiling and trying to will the notification to disappear.
